Since exploring Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump in southern Alberta, I was curious to explore one of the more northern jumps found in Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park. The park is located approximately an hour and a half northeast of Calgary, near the little town of Trochu, Alberta. Unlike the rolling plains near Head-Smashed-In, Dry Island is situated in the Badlands of Alberta creating an amazing backdrop to the history surrounding this area. It is hard to believe that just above the range is the flat prairie landscape.

Fantastic views here – I’ve been to Head-Smashed-In but not Dry Island…I’d say Head-Smashed-In doesn’t hold a candle in terms of the outstanding scenery here.
Both are beautiful in their own way, but I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived here.
Thanks for stopping by!
Happy travels…
